Once you have found an opponent to outrun with, get in front of the opponent and get in the lead. Get as far as possible until the distance meter has reached its limit. If the distance meter starts to drop, it indicates that the opponent is catching up. When this happens, do a handbrake skid and turn the car around. Go back the way that you came from. The opponent will follow you as you are the one in lead, but he will take time to catch up, giving you an advantage to win the outrun.
Win all Street X races to unlock the drift races from the original Need For Speed Underground.
When racing for magazine covers, unique performance or visual parts, it helps if you have both NOS bottles filled. This can let you scab that tenth of a second that you have always missed. It also helps, especially in the more difficult and longer stages, with small time limits, to immediately activate the GPS as soon as you have accepted the challenge.
Instead of using nitrous by holding it down and wasting it all at once, just keep tapping NOS as fast as you can. You will gain 1 to 3 mph with every tap, which is actually increases your speed faster than if you were to hold it down. Also, you will run out of it about one third as fast. Try this under the hardest difficulty setting.
When you are in Street X, change your car's transmission to manual and use a low gear through most of the race. It will help you cut your speed for better turns.
Notice that before the sharp turns during the URL races, there are a set of numbers that countdown to 1. Follow those numbers to perfect your sharp turn into a groove to speed through faster. Keep accelerating until you reach "1", then slam on the brakes and turn. Once perfected, this can help you get through the turns with more speed.
Look at road signs around the city. They often have colored shapes (yellow triangles, etc.) to guide the way to the shops. Also, look for street-lights casting a colored glow. This indicates that there is a shop very close.
If you cannot find any more races on your map, then you need to find all the hidden shops in the city. After you find all the shops, you will be asked to be on another DVD cover. Follow the star to get to the next level. Note: Use the shops map featured below.
To get lots of NOS easily, when you are standing still hold hand brake (R1). Next, hold the gas then hold Left or Right. You should spin around and create smoke. This should give you 300 points instantly to recover turbo boost
Sprayshow: Purge your nitrous
Traffic Hit: Penalty from hitting traffic.
Lead Lap: Lead a lap in the race.
Clean Section: Make it through an entire race section without hitting anything.
Clean Lap: Make it through an entire lap without hitting anything.
Shortcut: Take a shortcut.
Avoid Accident: Almost get in a wreck with another car.
360: Perform a 360 or a doughnut while driving.
Best Lap: Score a best lap during a race.
Head Start: Get off the starting line the quickest.
J Turn: Drive in reverse and swing the car around to drive away forwards.
Burnout: Spin the tires.
Leap Frog: Jump your car over a traffic accident.
Hydro Bounce: Bounce your car using level 3 hydraulics.
Go to any shop. Drive under the entrance projector and bring up all sides of car or bounce any desired side. Then, purge your NOS and while still holding NOS, press Up to enter the shop. When it shows your car entering the shop, you will be purging and bouncing while driving.
Collecting the little information logos around the city gives you money. You will receive $25 for each one.
Once you are in the photo shoot area, press Circle, hold your hand brake (R1), then rev the engine and press either Left or Right. The car should do donuts. While it is doing this, take the photo. This will give a smoky look on your wheels in the picture.
In drift mode, set your car up using the following this basic structure. Tune the ECU to have as much torque as you can get in the early gears. Make all of the suspension settings as hard as possible to eliminate shock travel. This will help get the back end out. Turn the tire grip to weak. Also, make the cars acceleration as quick as possible. For the toe settings, lower it all the way. Make the aero settings as weak as possible. Set the brake bias towards rear. By doing this, you will greatly increase your score, especially on the downhill. On the straight-aways you can do Choku-Doris (go from side to side) to rack up big points. You can then link them to power over-steer drifts, which is when you will use the torque and acceleration to lose traction in the back tires, then use carefully timed throttle control to get around the corner as sideways as possible. This will help your drifts scores get as high as possible. Throttle control is very important -- do not get discouraged if you spin out a lot. Note: This has not been attempted on FF or AWD cars. FF and AWD cars will most likely have a softer suspension setting but everything else would probably remain the same. FF and AWD cars also need the hand brake to initiate drifts more than a FR car would.
Driving in reverse will give you style points. The longer you drive in reverse, the more points you will receive.
Some of the downhill drift races have houses with looping drive ways that you can drive in. Drifting in these driveways gets a lot more points than on the street because you are so far off the road and are not hitting a wall.
The final race is against Caleb (the man that tells Nikki to win, then she loses and joins your team) on a 4.5 mile track and 5 laps. However, he only gets up to about 130 mph.
There are five stages, and as you complete each of them you can go back and repeat the races again. You may even find that there are some races you missed. These are the ones that you want to race. When you go to these, you are not supposed to get anything for them but you can change that. To access these races, go to your garage, then your world map, and select a race. When the race begins, pause game play and restart the race. Notice that there is an option to return to world map, however after you restart it will not be there. You can now race and get bank for it.
After you buy level 1, 2, or 3 hydraulics, come to a complete stop and hold R1. Use the Left-Analog stick to move up, down, left, or right. The longer you move back and forth, the more points you will get.
Install hydraulics level 2. Kiss the wall, then use your hydraulics (move the Analog-stick Up and Down quickly). Sooner or later, the car will jump, even making flips and 360s.
This trick requires a real wheel drive car with level 3 hydraulics. Start with your car in neutral. Double tap then hold the R1 to engage the hydraulics. Hold Left Analog-stick Up to begin bouncing the front end of the car. In mid-bounce, release R1, but keep holding the Left Analog-stick Up. The car will keep bouncing. Press the Right Analog-stick Forward to rev up the engine, then shift into first gear, while still holding Forward on both of the Analog-sticks. Your next hydraulic bounce will be delayed in the air while the car does a rolling burnout, causing your car to do a wheelie. This is great for showing off for the cover shoots of magazines.
To get a left rear tire off the ground, go to "Customize Car" and put hydraulics on the Pontiac GTO. Go to free ride mode and put the rear of the car off the ground with the hydraulics. Then, push the gas and hit the brakes. The left rear of the car will comes off the ground. Note: You must have the level 2 brakes.
This trick requires all of the level 2 upgrades, and hydraulics upgrade level 2. Get the hydraulics to either side of the car, and only that one side. Then, do a donut to the right if the left side of the car is lifted and vice versa. This only happens for a moment.
To catwalk a car, you must have stage three hydraulics and have stage 3 performance parts. Try using a Mazda RX-8 or a Ford Mustang. To start your catwalk, bounce the front of your car then release the emergency brake but continue to hold Forward. Then hit the gas at the top of the bounce. You car should catwalk. Note: This will now work with AWD and FWD cars.
Get any car and put level 3 hydraulics on it. Put on level 3 brakes. You can also use all level 3 engine parts to make it go higher. First, put the rear end up. Then, bounce the back. Next, go about 17 mph (or faster) and hit the brake. If done correctly, you could have the entire back end of the car straight up.
Use an RX-7 with level 3 hydraulics. Put the right side up all the way, but keep the left side down. Get the left side bouncing. Then, steer left the entire time. At first you need to get the speed in the turn up to 20 mph for about three seconds. When on two wheels, keep it at 15 mph to stay in a nice donut on two wheels. It can also be done the other way-- just put the left up instead of the right.
Install level 3 hydraulics and bounce the back end of your car. Then, begin to do a donut. After you do about three donuts you will start to do them on your front two tires.
In career mode when you unlock The Mustang GT, be careful when you put in the top engine with the top ECU. When going fast, watch out for sharp turns. You might spin out in a race; try to work on your handling.
Get on a highway of some kind at about 110 mph. When traffic is clear, hold R1 + Left until your car is spun at a 90 degree angle. Then, release the buttons (make sure your car is still spinning) then hold Square. You will be driving in reverse. When you are driving, do a J-Turn (turn back around to the front when in reverse). Then, accelerate to finish the move.

Use the following trick to create an extremely fast and high starred car quickly. When you start career mode, choose a Peugeot 106. Try not to get any upgrades unless you need them. Keep winning races and playing through the game until you unlock the Toyota Celica This can be made into the fastest car in the game. Get it immediately when it is unlocked. This should be sometime in level 2. Play through the game, making sure to take the opportunity to do of any outruns. This will unlock unique upgrades. When you unlock the unique part, you will have to go to a star on the map first. The game will tell you to go to a certain shop, depending on what the unique is. The first one is a unique hood. You must win four outruns for it. Then in stage 3, you need will need three outrun wins for a unique engine, transmission, or tire set. Choose the engine. For unique rims , get six wins in stage 3. The spoilers require four wins on stage 4. The vinyls require six wins on stage 4. The ECU, turbo or brakes require nine wins on stage 4. Select the ECU. The NOS, weight or suspension uniques require six wins on stage 5. Select NOS for an extra long boost. Finally, the wide body kits uniques require eleven wins on stage 5. Put all of these on your Celica, and it will be the fastest car in the game. Note: Do not forget to install the performance upgrades up to level 3.
The best car is the Toyota Celica. When you unlock everything. put all the parts on it.
To add more horsepower and torque, go to "Customize", then tune a car up to level 3 parts. Then, go to "Performance Tune/Dyno". Choose for example, "Drag", then go to "Tune Settings". Go to "ECU" and set it so that from 5 rpm to 9 rpm or whatever is the most the maximum amount of torque you can add. Do the same for "Turbo". Then. go to "Nitrous" and set the duration to 4 seconds. This will add both torque and horsepower to your ride.
Carbon your body kit, then put a wide body kit on it. The entire wide body will be carbon fiber. This will also give you a wider wheel base and should result in a lighter car.
To get to your top speed faster, go into your garage then go to "Tune up/Dyno". After that, go to "Circuit" and select the ECU. Make levels 3, 4, and 5 as low as possible; with 3 the lowest. Do a dyno run and look at your speed. Compare this to the first time you did it. It should increase a lot, helping in all your races.
To jump off a car's hood, you must first jump off an uphill road the other way that the car is traveling. Use your NOS, get some air, and when the car approaches, get on its hood, off its windshield, then into the air.
Take a Nissan Skyline, Ford Mustang or anything else with the same body shape. Put on any desired body parts, apart from "CF" items. Then, set everything that can have its color changed to a light gold. Leave it like that with no vinyls or decals and cruise the city.
When you unlock the split hood visual upgrade for your car. go to the shop where you buy them from. When in the shop, select "Split Hood"s and then look at them all by using Square. Go to the second to last one and press Square. Once it has opened, go to the bottom one and press Square. As soon as you see it start to open, go to either one of the ones that open a different way (the two after stock, preferably the second one). You will see the hood open in two directions towards the car and away from the car at the same time. Note: This can also be done the other way (replace the two bottom ones with the top ones and vice versa. Also, when you take a photo of your car it will not open glitched.
Fill all four vinyl slots with regular vinyls of your choice, then purchase this setup. Apply a unique vinyl on layer of your choice. Go to change (not remove), add the unique then press Triangle to go back out. All vinyls and the unique will be applied.
Go to the Jackson Heights body shop and select any spoiler that is not aluminum. Then, buy another one that is aluminum. Exit the store and pause game play. Select the "Jump To Garage" option and change the spoiler to the other spoiler you bought. Then, exit and enter the paint shop that is next to the body shop. Select any paint desired for the spoiler. Then, exit and select "jump To Garage" again. Switch to the aluminum spoiler and it will be the same color as the other one. Note: You should only do this in Jackson Heights or in customize mode; any other city has their shops spread out and it will be extremely difficult to do.
When you complete the required amount of wins in outrun in level 2 to unlock the unique hoods, it gives you a list of three parts and their carbon-fiber counterparts. When using a Honda Civic, you will get the Speedline, Factor X, and Trap hoods. For their carbon fiber counterparts, there will be Speedline, Factor X and another Factor X. The hoods are the correct counterparts but the name will be wrong.

When you are on the highway in either career or free run mode, go up to the yellow garbage cans that are filled with water at about 5 mph at the max. Hit them slowly so that the water flies out of them. Then, when you try to push them, it will seem difficult. You will start to see them slowly climbing up the front end of your car. Do not go to fast or you will have to get them on your car again. When you want them to stop in the air, just stop your car and drive backwards. They will stay in the air. If you make the cans go on top of your car and then drive backwards, you cannot get them down.
On some occasions when it starts raining, the rain will be raining directly towards you. When you turn around, notice that the rain is still falling directly towards you.
In career mode, make a car with level 3 NOS and turbo. On the road that the Burger king is on, go about 310 km an hour into a wall. You should drive straight through it. Your car will respawn back on the road.
This trick is extremely difficult to do and requires perfect timing. While on the highway, drive at a fast speed (130 mph). As you drive, look for a sign and at the same time make sure there is a car under it. Crash into the car and you may fly up, going through the sign. This may require a lot of attempts.
Come to a complete stop. Then, press X + R1 + R3, then press Right Analog-stick Up very fast. This may require a few attempts. If done correctly, the car will accelerate by itself. To stop this, press X again.
Run your car into any wall and make sure your front bumper is touching it. Use your hydraulics (level 2). When you do this, do not move the Analog-stick straight vertical or horizontal. Move it diagonally and you will jump ten to fifteen feet in the air.
Land on the roof of your car during an accident. When it enters slow motion, activate your hydraulics and watch the points rack up. It is possible to get 2,000 points by doing this.
When you are in any race mode, go across a little hill on the road. Make sure that another tuned car is on the other side. Look back and you should be able to see the other cars' headlights.
Note: This may only work in online and customization modes. First, do a dyno run on your car. Remember the hp and torque that your car currently has. Then, select the setting you wish to do this to and go to your ECU chip. Set the last tree bars (located all the way to the right) all the way up. Then, try to set the first two bars (located all the way to the left) equally in the middle. Next, go over to your Turbo settings and set the last four bars (located all the way to the right) all the way up. Then, for the rest of the bars that were not previously changed, set them down one time each. Do a dyno run and your hp and torque should rise significantly. You can still increase your hp even more by doing the following. Go to turbo and put all bars down one time in order from greatest to least, except the last four bars to the right. Go to dyno and your hp should have risen every time this has been done correctly.
On stage five, select an SUV. There should be three SUV races appearing on the map. Select one of them and press Left Analog-stick Left. There should be a race out in the middle of the ocean.
